David Felice, the Executive Director of architecture firm AP Valletta, was presented with the Premju Galizia Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chamber of Architects.
Perit Felice accepted the award at Malta’s national architecture awards ceremony.
In comments, the team at AP Valletta remarked that the Chamber of Architects presented the award in recognition of his impact on Malta’s built environment.
“His contributions include his work at AP Valletta, his role as a former President of the Chamber of Architects, and his chairmanship of Valletta 2018 (V18), which secured Valletta’s bid for the title of European Capital of Culture,” the firm added.
When launching the awards, the Chamber of Architects noted that it is important for the profession to have its own badge of quality, since it is the profession that can best celebrate the values it believes in. “Not as a publicity event, but as a genuine recognition of each other’s work, by ourselves.”
The Chamber sought to associate the awards with Perit Galizia, a prominent architect, civil engineer and “one of its own.” He is known for his work at Santa Marija Addolorata Cemetery, the Turkish Cemetery, and the Moorish houses in Sliema. “He signifies the birth, and the best, of the modern profession. He was not afraid of being contemporary, while not discarding tradition away. These are the ‘timeless’ qualities that we want the Kamra’s award to be associated with,” it shared.
