As digital assets mature, the role of digital asset platforms is changing, CEO of Gate Europe Giovanni Cunti has said.

They are moving beyond traditional trading services toward a broader range of financial solutions, he explained.

The CEO of Gate Europe, a cryptocurrency exchange which has a Malta listed company for its EU operations, said that the financial landscape is evolving rapidly as technology, investor expectations, and global markets continue to converge.

“When the digital asset industry first emerged, trading was at the centre of the user experience," he said, explaining that exchanges had provided access to cryptocurrencies and enabled users to buy, sell, and manage digital assets.

However, he said that today investors' needs are becoming increasingly diverse.

He explained that users look for more than access to digital asset markets, and want more flexibility across different asset classes, more efficient ways to manage capital, seamless payment experiences, and access to new financial opportunities within a connected digital environment.

This shift, he said, is transforming digital asset platforms from trading venues into broader financial infrastructure.

“The development of products such as stablecoins, tokenised assets, digital payments, and multi-asset investment solutions is helping bridge the gap between digital assets and traditional finance. This convergence also creates new expectations for platforms. Financial services need to be accessible and efficient, but they must also be built around security, transparency, regulatory compliance, and strong operational infrastructure.”

Regulation, he said, will play an increasingly important role in this transition.

“As digital asset services expand into areas that intersect more closely with traditional finance, clear regulatory frameworks can provide the certainty needed for sustainable innovation and broader institutional adoption.”

Gate believes the evolution of digital asset services must be supported by responsible innovation and trusted infrastructure, he said.

“The opportunity ahead extends well beyond trading. Digital asset platforms can increasingly serve as a bridge between different financial products, markets, and forms of value, creating a more connected experience for investors around the world.”

The platforms that succeed as the financial landscape continues to evolve will not simply provide access to digital assets, he explains, but rather will help users navigate a broader financial ecosystem, and this will be done through secure infrastructure, innovative products, and compliant access to emerging opportunities.

“The transformation of digital asset platforms is already underway. We believe the next generation of financial services will be defined by greater connectivity across markets, products, and asset classes, with digital infrastructure playing an increasingly important role in shaping how global finance evolves.”
