The body of UK tech billionaire Mike Lynch has been identified as one of the five bodies recovered from the Bayesian superyacht wreckage in Sicily.

Italian authorities have confirmed that the search for the tech tycoon’s 18-year-old daughter is still underway.

The Italian Coast Guard has also confirmed to the press that the bodies of Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judith Bloomer, lawyer Christopher Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo were also recovered.

On Monday, the Bayesian, a British-flagged superyacht (pictured above) which had 22 people on board, including 10 crew members, sank off the coast of Porticello, Sicily after being hit by a waterspout. Waterspouts are tornadoes that form over water or move from land to water and can develop during intense storms.

The yacht, a 56-metre sailboat, had just anchored offshore near the port of Porticello, when it was struck by the waterspout at around 5am.

A few moments after the wreck, and after the storm had subsided, a Dutch-flagged vessel managed to rescue some survivors from the sea. Some of the survivors confirmed so far include Mike Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares, British national Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter as well as lawyer Ayla Ronald who worked within the same firm as Dr Morvillo.

The group of high profile individuals had gathered aboard the superyacht to celebrate Mike Lynch’s acquittal from a US court in relation to a highly-publicised legal battle.

The entire incident has captured intrigue around the world after it became known that his co-defendant in the US case, Stephen Chamberlain, died after being hit by a car while out running in Cambridgeshire, UK, on Saturday, two days before the superyacht incident.
