The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has published its Annual Report and audited Financial Statements for the financial year ending 31st December 2020. The report exhibits the hard work performed by the MGA’s employees, as well as key projects executed by the Authority all throughout 2020.

“The year 2020 will undoubtedly be remembered for the challenges the pandemic presented us with, and I am proud of the Authority’s employees who worked tirelessly to ensure that we continued to perform the functions required of us at law,” MGA CEO Carl Brincat said.

According to the report, the MGA issued 69 warnings and 24 administrative penalties, suspended three licenses, and cancelled another 12, all between January and December 2020.

“Keeping the ship steady during a challenging year serves as a strong foundation for us to look ahead with renewed commitment to keep building on the positives and improve on our shortcomings, to reach new heights in our regulatory approach,” Dr Brincat continued.

1,475 criminal probity screening checks were undertaken throughout 2020, an increase of 13.5 per cent when compared to 2019. Furthermore, the report stated that eight individuals and companies were deemed not to be up to the MGA’s probity standards by the Fit & Proper Committee.

In a bid to encourage knowledge sharing and cooperation overseas, the MGA hosted members of the Lotteries and Gaming Board and the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
