Liquigas Malta Limited Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Stephen L. Muscat’s six-year term at the International Federation of Accountants’ (IFAC) Professional Accountants in Business Advisory Group (PAIBG) committee has come to an end, he announced on Tuesday.

IFAC is a global organisation that acts for the accountancy profession, comprised of over 180 members and associates in 135 countries and jurisdictions, representing more than three million accountants working in public practice, education, Government service, industry, and commerce. It seeks to enhance the relevance, reputation, and value of the global accountancy profession. Formed in 1977, the PAIBG is comprised of volunteers with experience and expertise in the business world to consider key global trends in the context of the issues facing CFOs and finance functions, as well as boards and their audit committees.

He had been chosen to represent The Malta Institute of Accountants (MIA) and SME businesses back in 2018. Mr Muscat is presently Chair of the Professional Accountants in Business (PAIB) Committee within the MIA.

“It was a mixture of learning opportunities, as well as giving feedback on large issues impacting all businesses and organisations today, from the small business perspective,” Mr Muscat said, speaking about his time at IFAC.

He proceeded to thank MIA for nominating him to the committee, and CEO Maria Cauchi Delia and Technical Manager Amanda Zammit for their contributions. Mr Muscat also expressed gratitude to the two IFAC Chairs he served, namely Charles Tilley and Sanjay Rugani, as well as Stathis Gould and Laura Leka from the IFAC technical team who “were always ready to listen and guide.”

“A big thank you too to all the members and technical advisors who served with me in the group over the last six years,” he concluded.

Mr Muscat is a Fellow of the MIA and a Certified Public Accountant by profession. Additionally, he has also been a Malta Employers’ Association Council Member for 20 years, and has also served as the association’s Honorary Treasurer and Deputy President.

In addition to his role as CFO at Liquigas, he is also the LPG supplying company’s Company Secretary. In his roles he is responsible for finance, human resources, IT and administration, and also provides support to the CEO and commercial department, including setting the company’s strategic direction.

He specialises in bringing the financial perspective to the operations and commercial aspects of businesses, and also provides financial education to senior members of companies. Mr Muscat also specialises in analytical numbers interpretation and pricing strategies.
