David Debono has stepped down from his position of Executive Director of Bortex Group Holdings Company.
According to the Malta Stock Exchange update, his resignation took effect from Friday 27th December.
He holds postgraduate qualifications in operations, strategic management, human resources, finance and marketing from Henley Management College, obtained in 2008. In 2011 he was awarded his Master’s degree in Business Administration from Henley Business School specialising in corporate business strategy.
Mr Debono has a long career in management, spanning different roles. His career took off within an international chain of hotels, during the 15-year partnership of SolMelia and Suncrest, in the late 1990s, where he held different senior management roles in various departments.
Subsequently, he held the post of Group General Manager for Sunsites Ltd, a company that operates two hotels and a wellness centre in the northern part of Malta. In his tenure, he secured Maltas first Tourism Authority Quality Certification for one of the hotels.
In 2007, he joined the Grand Hotel Excelsior as Operations Director and was later appointed Director of Business Development.
Later, in 2011, he joined Baystreet Holdings Ltd as CEO with a focus on its business development strategy and corporate development. He was also responsible for the setting up of a new subsidiary with interests in the retail industry, representing the Spanish brands within the Cortefiel Group.
He joined Bortex Group in 2018. Bortex was established as a manufacturing company in 1964 by Saviour Borg with Dutch Van Gils Group. Bortex is an anagram of the name Borg and textiles and during the time it began retailin brands in the European market. At the time, this venture inspired Gagliardi, a brand inspired by Mr Borg’s nickname.
Later, he ventured into the tourism and hospitality industries including taking over the lease of the Capua Court Hotel, Promenade Hotel in Sliema as well as the Concorde, Liliana and San Mark Hotels in Bugibba. Today, the company operates the 1926 Hotel and Palazzo Jean Parisot, a boutique hotel in Valletta.
