Independent Management Consultant, David Spiteri Gingell, has announced the launch of the ‘Mental Health and Financial Capability guidebook’, aimed at aiding persons with mental health conditions to acquire financial capability and independence.
GEMMA, a Government project, is a financial capability platform which Mr Spiteri Gingell has led and implemented for the past four years.
Sharing the project’s latest development on social media, he explained, “As I had the opportunity to say on Linked-In, I am bi-polar II with all that goes with it. Past four years or so I have led the implementation of the Government of Malta’s financial capability platform – GEMMA.”
“During 2020 we worked with the Mental Health Services and the HSBC Malta Foundation. I am proud to say that together we developed a financial capability programme for persons with mental health conditions living in the community.”
The guidebook aims to provide a first step towards financial wellness for persons with mental health conditions.
“GEMMA wanted to create a programme that, once completed, could help a person achieve a solid foundation required to manage current income and expenses and plan for future possibilities,” according to the guidebook.
Mr Spiteri Gingell added that the programme was set to be launched in March 2021, “but COVID played the spoiler. Targeting launch post COVID restrictions in the coming near future.”
