Albert Marshall addressed his last annual report for Arts Council Malta in the capacity of ACM’s Chairman, affirming the art body’s dedication to “championing the arts, fostering collaboration and strengthening Malta’s position within the international creative sphere.”

This month, Dr Luke Dalli was announced to succeed Albert Marshall as Executive Chairperson as well as CEO. Mr Marshall will remain a consultant to the Council.

In the 2024 report, Mr Marshall made particular reference to the launch and endorsement of the Charter for the Status of the Artist, during the State of the Arts 2024 Malta National Symposium, marking a historic milestone.The Charter for the Status of the Artist, was launched to improve working conditions, recognition, and rights for artists. It aims to ensure artists are treated fairly and have access to resources, while also promoting artistic freedom and safeguarding their rights. 

In 2024, ACM supported a portfolio of 22 funding schemes for creative and cultural sectors. With 672 eligible applications received, 377 projects were awarded funding, representing a direct investment exceeding €4.5 million.

The 60th edition of La Biennale di Venezia marked Arts Council Malta’s fourth participation with its own National Pavilion since 2017. The solo show by Maltese artist Matthew Attard, entitled I Will Follow the Ship, consisted of a new art commission, weaving together cultural heritage and cutting-edge AI-driven technology.
