GO plc CEO Nikhil Patil has been named Director and Chairman at BMIT Technologies, the technology solutions company announced on Wednesday.
The move comes just over a month after the completion of a transaction between GO and BMIT, which saw the latter acquire the 278 sites that make up GO’s passive telecoms assets, necessary for the telecoms company to function. Completed for a total figure of €46.6 million, the deal also includes the transfer of an employee responsible for managing the sites, as BMIT is now also responsible for maintaining the cell towers and providing GO with hosting and co-location services for an initial 30-year period. This will be automatically renewed for further five-year periods unless otherwise agreed.
Following the transaction, Christian Sammut has now relinquished his post as Director of the company, instead focusing on his role as CEO.
Ing. Sammut will be replaced by Mr Patil, who will also assume the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors with immediate effect.
Mr Patil had already held the role of Director and Chairman of BMIT in the past, having occupied the positions between 2019 and 2022.
In addition to this change, BMIT also announced that Alan Camilleri and Sean Cohen have been appointed Chief Officer Tower Operations and Chief Officer Customer Delivery and Support Services, respectively. Both appointments are effective with immediate effect.
Mr Camilleri, a telecoms professional with various years of experience working in commercial, digital and operational roles, will be joining BMIT from GO, where he most recently served as Senior Manager of Business Application Management.
In his role as Chief Officer Tower Operations, he will be assuming the responsibility for BMIT’s recent investment in passive mobile infrastructure, being tasked with leading this new operation and targeting any new potential markets.
On the other hand, Mr Cohen presently Head of Tech Operations at BMIT, has years of experience in delivering and managing complex customer IT solutions.
He will be leading the company’s enterprise solutions team, with an increased focus on cloud and managed services as well as the delivery of advanced cybersecurity solutions.
BMIT is a diversified IT and technology group that offers customers a range of data centre and hosting services, public, private and hybrid cloud services, as well as managed IT services.
