KM Malta Airlines operates around 13,000 accident-free flights annually, Chairperson David Curmi has revealed, underscoring the airline’s commitment to safety.
KM has only been operating since 1st April 2024, less than a year ago, replacing Malta’s former national flag carrier, Air Malta.
Assuming the new airline is operating a comparable number of flights, which averaged around 15,000 per year, the proportion of accident-free flights represents 86.7 per cent.
The airline has reinforced its commitment to safety by signing the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Safety Leadership Charter.
Mr Curmi highlighted that “KM Malta Airlines adheres to guiding principles that prioritise safety, integrate safety into business strategies, raise awareness, and cultivate a culture of trust and accountability.”
However, as safety improves, the challenge of maintaining continuous progress “becomes more complex,” shared Mr Curmi.
Representing over 100 global airlines and accounting for approximately 70 per cent of global air traffic, the charter is a global initiative aimed at fostering a strong safety culture across aviation organisations.
