The Regulator for Energy and Water Services (REWS) has announced the appointment of Ing. Maria Aquilina as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), marking an important leadership milestone as she becomes the first woman to head the authority.

Ing. Aquilina succeeds Ing. Marjohn Abela, who retired after years of service to the regulator. REWS expressed its gratitude to Ing. Abela for his valuable service.

With over a decade of experience in the energy sector, Ing. Aquilina brings a wealth of expertise to the role. Her career has spanned both private and public spheres, with a particular focus on the fuel industry.

For the past three years, she served as a policy consultant within the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness, gaining experience in the legislative processes, policy development and public administration.

Maria Aquilina is also a qualified engineer, holding a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
