Working in elderly care “means we go home with a deep sense of responsibility, knowing we’ve made a real difference in someone’s life,” said Connected Care CEO Lucienne Vassallo in a recent interview as she reflected on the positive impact of her work.

Ms Vassallo made the comments while speaking to Monty Alexander, Founder and CEO of AI-driven platform Yokeru, on his podcast Age Tech Innovators.

In the episode titled ‘Malta’s big role in small-scale senior care innovation with Lucienne Vassallo’, the two explored how Malta has become a surprising yet significant launchpad for digital health and senior care solutions.

Connected Care, a subsidiary of GO plc, provides telecare and technology-driven services tailored to the needs of the elderly.

Under Ms Vassallo’s leadership, backed by a decade of experience in information technology and health services, the company is helping redefine aging through innovation.

She shared how entering the senior care industry profoundly transformed her life.

“We offer peace of mind to the community. Through independence, we empower the elderly to live a better life,” she said.

Reflecting on what drew her to the sector, Ms Vassallo said she was inspired by the tangible, life-saving impact of Connected Care’s technology. She explained that if an elderly person were to fall and require assistance, the system enables them to call for help immediately, often allowing them to be treated in a hospital within the hour.

In the podcast, Ms Vassallo also discussed Connected Care’s recent rollout of AI-powered glucose monitoring for children, shared her vision for what aging could look like in 40 years, highlighted the technologies that could shape that future, and reflected on Malta’s potential to become a global hub for digital care innovation.

She continued: “Malta is a very small island with a population of around 700,000 people. That puts our country in a very specific place where one can use Malta as a pilot. If something works here, I’m sure it will work in the UK, in the Nordics and everywhere”.
