Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent engagement to Georgina Rodríguez, complete with an eye-catching oval-cut diamond ring, quickly went viral online and sparked discussions about its possible value.

Nigel Azzopardi from Victor Azzopardi Jewellers tells MaltaCEOs.mt that while international estimates have placed the ring in the multi-million-euro range, its true value cannot be determined from photographs alone, as clarity, cut, and colour all play a crucial role in pricing.

On the other hand, Elaine Vella from GB Jewellers estimates that Ronaldo’s ring could feature an oval-cut diamond of over 20 carats, with a possible value between $5 million and $8 million, depending on quality.

When asked about the local diamond market, Mr Azzopardi describes current conditions as an opportune time to purchase natural diamonds, with prices at some of the fairest levels seen in recent years.

Additionally, locally he has seen strong customer interest in celebrity-inspired jewellery, with marquise cuts – like Selena Gomez’s engagement ring – drawing particular attention.

Ms Vella notes that while there is growing interest in lab-grown diamonds, especially for customers seeking a larger stone at a more affordable price, natural diamonds remain the preference for many in Malta. She observes that Maltese consumers tend to prioritise quality over size.

Popular choices locally include emerald and oval cuts, with a hidden halo setting also in demand.

She adds that while customers frequently bring in images of jewellery worn by celebrities, not every piece seen online can be reproduced exactly, as certain designs incorporate elements that may not be feasible.
