Max Ganado and Marisa Xuereb have joined the Board of Directors of Atlas Insurance PCC Limited as independent Non-Executive Directors, the insurance firm announced on Monday (today).

The pair will be taking over from Andre Camilleri and Philip Micallef who have reached the end of their terms.

Atlas Insurance welcomed Dr Ganado and Ms Xuereb and also expressed deep gratitude and appreciation to Dr Camilleri and Mr Micallef for their “valuable service and dedication” over the years.

Ms Xuereb is former President of The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, and is a seasoned business leader with a proven track record in the manufacturing sector and in representing business interests at both national and international forums. She has served and continues to serve on the Board of Directors of a number of local companies.

Dr Ganado has been practising law for close to 40 years, having initially started off as a Maritime Lawyer. He became Partner of Ganado Advocates in 1986 and moved on to develop the firm’s financial services practice. He retired in December 2020 and now acts as a Consultant to the firm. Dr Ganado has been heavily involved in the drafting of new legislation required for the development of Malta as a financial centre, including provisions on derivatives, life insurance, protected cell companies, and fiduciary obligations.

Commenting on the appointments, Atlas Insurance Chairperson Malcolm Booker said: “The professionalism and attributes of our board members have consistently enabled the Board of Directors to provide oversight and strategic guidance.”

He remarked that Dr Camilleri and Mr Micallef were instrumental to the functioning of the company’s Board of Directors, expressing his gratitude. He also welcomed Dr Ganado and Ms Xuereb, who he stated “will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience” to the company’s leadership team.

The appointments, effective from May 2024, were confirmed during the company’s Annual General Meeting held on 17th May.

Atlas Insurance PCC Ltd is the flagship company of Atlas Group and operates an extensive branch and intermediary network throughout Malta and Gozo.
