Nicholas Schembri on Wednesday announced that he has been appointed General Manager (Malta) at Nium.

His new position at the payment solutions company comes after he amassed a wide range of experience working in human resources (HR) positions at various firms.

“After 16 years developing and managing different HR teams and supporting cross functional synergies within different organisations, it’s time to take the next step in my career,” he said.

In his new role, Mr Schembri will be responsible for directing and managing the organisation’s business activities, along with developing and implementing “effective strategies and programmes” across its Malta operations.

Aside from this, he is also an Affiliate Member at the UK’s Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

His experience includes three-and-a-half years as Chief HR Officer at Calamatta Cuschieri, more than three years as Chief HR Officer at Medserv plc, and almost four years in various HR management positions at Besedo. He also worked as HR Manager at Casino Di Venezia and Operations Manager – United Garage Ltd at Hertz.

He describes himself as a results-oriented professional that has a “passion for integrating HR into complex organisations using a blended method of transactional and transformational techniques”.

Mr Schembri holds a Master of Business Administration in Employee Relations from University of Leicester, and a Diploma in Management from University of Malta.

Nium is a global payment solutions company that provides banks, payment providers, and businesses with access to global payment and card issuance services. While it is headquartered in California, the United States, it also has offices in Singapore, London, and San Ġwann, Malta.
