On Wednesday (today), Odette Vassallo was announced as the new Chairperson of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.

Prof. Vassallo will be replacing Alfred Camilleri who wished to end his tenure in  the office.

Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici praised the Mr Camilleri’s contributions made to the Orchestra and noted that he was and remains a “sincere and loyal friend of the artistic and cultural sector.”

He added that during his tenure, he implemented important changes that will serve as a foundation for the upcoming work.

On the other hand, the Minister thanked Prof. Vassallo for accepting the role and emphasised that her work and experience will strengthen the collaboration between the orchestra and the education sector.  

Prof. Vassallo has vast experience in the education sector and is an English Graduate from University of Malta.

She obtained a Master’s Degree and Doctorate in Linguistics from University of Nottingham, England, and serves as the Chairperson of the MATSEC Board.
