Bank of Valletta plc (BOV) on Thursday announced that regulatory approval has been granted for the appointment of Christian Bonnici West as its new Non-Executive Director.
His appointment was initially announced during the bank’s 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at the end of May. At the time, his appointment was still subject to regulatory approval.
Dr Bonnici West is a specialist in digital transformation and is a Resident Academic within the Insurance and Risk Management Department within University of Malta’s Faculty of Economics, Management, and Accountancy (FEMA).
He has interdisciplinary research interests revolving around the notions of consent, privacy, fintech, Insurtech, surveillance, as well as digital rights management. Dr Bonnici West has also been involved in the design and delivery of educational training materials which cover both fundamental information as well as security and compliance concepts and principles, at both Masters and Bachelor level.
In recent years, Dr Bonnici West has gained professional experience working in aspects of information security and privacy management.
This includes as Infosec Governance Manager at Betsson Group, Information Security and Compliance and Risk Manager at HID Global as part of a national Public Key Infrastructure project. He was also an external contractor responsible for IT compliance within the pharmaceutical industry, a Consultant and Auditor at PwC Malta, as well as a representative on the Maltese National Cybersecurity Steering Committee.
Dr Bonnici West has a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and a Master of Science (MSc), both on Information Security and from Royal Holloway, University of London. He also has a Bachelor of Science (BSc) (Hons) in Computing and Information Systems from Goldsmiths College, University of London.
He describes himself as an “innovative, interdisciplinary, creative, and systematic” individual, who is particularly skilled in research, analysis, design, communication, and teaching.
The findings underscore the persistence of gender bias and barriers.
