In a fast-paced work environment, staying ahead requires more than just efficiency and innovation – it demands a proactive approach to feedback.

Christine Hili, Head of Human Resources at Rootz LTD, took to LinkedIn to share that recently she took a bold step in fostering transparency within her organisation.

“One of the greatest advantages you can give yourself in a fast-paced workplace is taking a proactive approach to feedback,” Ms Hili shared. Recognising the importance of aligning HR practices with employee needs, she initiated a survey to gather honest insights from various teams, something she hadn’t done in nearly five years.

Stepping outside the comfort zone

Seeking feedback is not always easy. For Ms Hili, issuing the survey meant stepping outside her comfort zone, but it was a necessary move to drive meaningful change.

“Through the process, I learned that seeking feedback isn’t just about pinpointing areas for improvement, it’s about cultivating a culture of openness, trust, and mutual growth,” she explained. By actively inviting input, companies can create an environment where employees feel valued and heard.

Embracing growth and new perspectives

Even the most experienced professionals can benefit from fresh perspectives. Ms Hili emphasises that no matter how confident one feels in their approach, there is always room for growth.

“There’s always room to grow, new perspectives to explore, and opportunities to improve,” she noted. However, she also acknowledged that gathering feedback takes time and patience, as employees may initially be hesitant to offer constructive criticism.

Encouraging a feedback-driven mindset

The key to fostering a feedback-driven culture is consistency. According to Ms Hili, if leaders adopt a mindset that welcomes feedback, employees will gradually gain the confidence to share their thoughts more openly.

“If you adopt a mentality that encourages feedback, people will gradually build the courage to give it,” she advised.

For any business leader hesitant about taking the first step, Ms Hili offers strong encouragement: “So, if you’re considering taking the first step toward gathering feedback, I highly encourage you to do it. You may be surprised by what you uncover.”

By embracing feedback as a tool for continuous improvement, companies can strengthen their internal culture, enhance employee engagement, and drive long-term success.
