As a result, she takes over from Ruth Azzopardi, who departed the company last December after nearly two years in the role. Ms Azzopardi has since been named Cluster Director of Revenue at Meliá Hotels International, a Spanish hotel chain that is set to manage three hotels in St Julian’s.

Ms Azzopardi Deguara brings over 11 years of hospitality industry experience to IHG Hotels & Resorts, having most recently served as Director of Revenue Management at Malta Marriott Hotel & Spa for 11 months. Prior to that, she also worked as Revenue Manager and Revenue Management Executive during her eight-and-a-half-year experience at the hotel.

Her career also includes experiences as Front Office Associate at Le Méridien St. Julians Hotel & Spa and Guest Relations and Hostess at Preluna Hotel and Spa, among others.

She holds a post-graduate degree in creativity and innovation, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Business and Computing, both from University of Malta.

Ms Azzopardi Deguara’s appointment was met with a number of welcoming messages from various IHG Hotels & Resorts employees, including Cluster Director of Sales and Marketing Tracey Bolton, who said: “It is so great to be working with you and starting our journey together.”

Dilini Basnayake, who was only appointed Cluster Human Resources Manager at the company last month, said that it is “great” to have Ms Azzopardi Deguara “onboard”.

IHG Hotels & Resorts is a global hospitality company that encapsulates 17 hotels brands and has over 6,000 open hotels in more than 100 countries. Its portfolio in Malta currently includes St Julian’s-based InterContinental Malta and Holiday Inn Express Malta. The company is set to add to its list of hotels in the country with the launch of the Holiday Inn brand, which Eden Leisure Group CEO Simon De Cesare confirmed will arrive in 2024.
