The Mosta Rotunda, one of Malta’s iconic landmarks and a prime tourist attraction, has been awarded the Quality Assured Seal by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), a voluntary quality recognition scheme aimed at businesses offering high levels of quality, consistency and professionalism, according to the MTA website.
In his opening remarks at the award ceremony, Giovanni Chetcuti, CEO of the Mosta Rotunda Foundation, emphasised that the award not only reflected the fruits of years of dedicated work but also strengthens the Foundation’s goal of preserving this national treasure and making it more accessible to both the community and tourists alike.
“It serves as further motivation to continue in the path towards greater excellence and the main goal of the Mosta Rotunda, that is, to be a place where the community gathers to pray and celebrate religious events,” he continued in his opening speech during the award ceremony.
Mr Chetcuti also paid tribute to the volunteers and staff whose passion and selfless dedication have been vital to keeping this monument alive and vibrant.
The Chairperson of the Foundation, the Rev. Archpriest Sebastian Caruana, expressed his satisfaction with the award, thanking everyone involved for their contribution to achieving this certificate of excellence. He noted that the seal clearly demonstrates the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to sharing the historical and cultural heritage of the Mosta Rotunda, both with tourists and local residents.
Over recent years, the Mosta Rotunda Foundation has implemented numerous projects aimed at enhancing the visitor experience. These initiatives include the introduction of a guided route through the basilica, opening access to the dome’s upper gallery and the World War II shelter, as well as the production of educational films and multilingual audio guides.
The expansion of cultural offerings at the Dome Visitors Centre, highlighted by the ‘Dar Mustija’ initiative, has further enriched the site’s appeal.
The foundation also curates a calendar of cultural activities throughout the year, such as the Last Supper exhibition during Holy Week, the Maltese Christmas Traditions around the Rotunda, and special Christmas concerts, designed to foster deeper engagement between visitors, the local community and the monument itself.
The award was presented by Carlo Micallef, CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority, who also hails from Mosta. He commended the foundation’s unwavering professionalism and dedication to maintaining high standards at this national treasure.
Local soprano Valentina Cassar Bezzina also performed in the award ceremony.
