Luxury sports car and SUV manufacturer Lamborghini has registered record profits for 2020, despite two months of closure for its Italian factory due to COVID-19.

“In a year as difficult as 2020, I am proud to say that Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. demonstrated great strength and continued its growing appeal, bucking the trend in the global luxury industry,” says CEO Stephan Winkelmann of the results, which saw sales go down 11 per cent from 2019.

Despite this, Lamborghini achieved its highest profitability ever, due to an uptick in more expensive, customised vehicles through its highly profitable ‘limited special series’ models.

“We achieved the highest profitability ever and we had the second-best year ever in terms of both turnover and number of cars delivered: Lamborghini ended fiscal year 2020 with a turnover of 1.61 billion euros, and 7,430 cars sold worldwide,” the CEO continued, looking towards the future of the carmaker with optimism.

“We anticipate the future with great optimism, as 2021 opened with a very positive outlook: deliveries in the first two months of this year have already surpassed those of the previous pre-pandemic period, and the orders placed thus far already cover nine months of production. I look forward to keeping working closely with my team to achieve great results, this year and beyond.”
