Jesper Svensson, CEO at Betsson Group, has described the significance of appearing on the shirts of Argentinian football club Boca Juniors as a notable milestone for the company.

iGaming company Betsson Group, which has its operational headquarters in Malta, has expanded its Latin American presence by announcing a new sponsorship agreement with the football club, with it becoming its front-of-shirt sponsor.

The sponsorship was fully announced on Sunday during a testimonial game for legendary football player Juan Román Riquelme at the La Bombonera Stadium, Argentina, between two teams made up of Boca Juniors and Argentinian legends, one of whom was FIFA World Cup winner Lionel Messi.

Mr Svensson was also in attendance, and he commented that the testimonial match, known by Argentines as Para Toda La Vida, is famous among football fans and Boca Juniors’ growing fanbase.

Commenting about football and sports, the CEO added: “The sport and soccer, in particular, are in Betsson’s DNA; That’s why we could not be left out of such a significant and important game for the club with the most titles and most popular in Argentina.”

“This is a historic match that will remain engraved in the hearts of all Boca Juniors fans and soccer lovers,” Mr Svensson said.

While the financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed publicly, the sponsorship is evaluated at around $7.5 million (€6.87 million), and thanks to the new deal, Betsson Group will position its logo at the front of the team’s matchday kits. The iGaming company has become the team’s first shirt sponsor since July 2022.

Also at the event, Betsson Group CCO and CMO Ronni Hartvig confirmed the news of the agreement, and said that he cannot “think of a better way to launch such a partnership”.

“Riquelme’s farewell game, Boca versus Argentina in a sold-out La Bombonera stadium, ecstatic”, he said, before jokingly adding that Messi turned up as well and received a Betsson award “for being Messi”.

Betsson Group, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, has grown over the years to become one of the leading names within the industry. While its headquarters are based in Stockholm, Sweden, its operational headquarters are located in Ta’ Xbiex, Malta.
