Gege Gatt

Gege Gatt believes that human societies have “an obligation” to harness the “great power” of artificial intelligence (AI) platforms “as a vector of positive socio-political change”.

The Co-Founder and CEO of AI product EBO.ai argued that it all depends on whether such platforms have “specific elements of accountability and have addressed external risks”.

In comments made to CyberNews, Dr Gatt criticised media reporting around the issue, and said that a balanced viewpoint “is often missing”, resulting in “a magnified perception of threat”.

“This viewpoint radicalisation leads to confusion and uncertainty as there is an absence of a clear, coherent narrative which society can anchor on,” he said.

However, he admitted that AI “is intrinsically about revolution, not technology, and will naturally lead to some tension.”

Earlier this year, Dr Gatt shared his view that “technology, just like science, is a human endeavour that must be guided by values.”

“The future belongs to those who can shape the power of AI, while maintaining a deep respect for the things that make us truly human, and truly fragile,” he added.

Aside from being the Co-Founder and CEO at AI product EBO.ai, he has also been Director at technology company ICON for 23 years, Vice President at the Malta IT Law Association for almost nine years, and a Board Member at the Humanity 2.0 Foundation for over four years, and is also a Specialist Examiner (ICT Law Doctoral Thesis) at University of Malta.
