Corinthia Caterers Chief Operating Officer (COO) Edmond Bonett on Sunday highlighted that a good work ethic needs to be accompanied by a clear plan to keep efficiency at the top of one’s agenda.

For several years, talent has been deemed as a key component in the route to success, yet Mr Bonett disagrees “wholeheartedly” over whether this is or should really be the case.

“We live in a day and age where one’s work ethic has more value than ever before. I’m sure most of us heard or read about 10 things that require zero talent. This [work ethic] is definitely one of the most valuable, along with attitude,” he explained.

“Working smarter, and not necessarily harder is really what it should be all about,” he said, before adding that one has to evaluate, brainstorm, challenge, think outside the box, and also “take those decisions however difficult or unpopular for some they might be”, always focusing on keeping “efficiency at the top of your agenda”.

He remarked that the prevalence of modern day technology has brought about a number of benefits, yet also creates a “never-ending amount of time-wasting opportunities and numerous distractions”, all of which can prompt people to be easily “caught in between do and don’t, yes or no, now or later, but most importantly, right or wrong”.

“No one is perfect and no one is expecting you to be, just try working on improving the rights and limiting the wrongs as much as possible,” Mr Bonett said. When one does so, over time they will start to notice “things happening differently” around them, he concluded.

Mr Bonett is a seasoned hospitality and catering industry professional, having had a number of experiences at various local and international hotels and restaurants. Earlier this year, he left his position as Group General Manager at Manouche Craft Bakery & Bistro in order to join Corinthia Caterers as COO.
