Bank of Valletta’s newly awarded ISO 37001 certification sends a strong message about the institution’s internal culture and its approach to ethical conduct, according to Group Chief Compliance Officer Anatoli Grech.

He said the certification “reinforces the bank’s culture that promotes and harnesses transparency and ethical behaviour,” while also strengthening BOV’s corporate reputation both locally and internationally.

ISO 37001 is an internationally recognised standard for Anti-Bribery Management Systems, designed to help organisations prevent, detect and respond to bribery risks. Regular training for employees and stakeholders, as well as internal controls to monitor and prevent bribery-related activities, also formed part of the assessment.

Other senior figures also highlighted the significance of the milestone. BOV CEO Kenneth Farrugia described the certification as “yet another significant milestone for the bank”, pointing out that BOV is the first local financial institution to achieve ISO 37001.

He said the recognition reflects the bank’s commitment to integrity and ethical business practices, while further enhancing trust among stakeholders.

The certification was independently verified by Bureau Veritas, a leader in certification and inspection services.

Its Malta Country Manager, Peter Cain, praised BOV’s team for its professionalism and dedication throughout the process, stating that the achievement reflects the bank’s commitment to excellence and ethical business standards. “Bureau Veritas is thankful for BOV’s trust in our service, and we look forward to a long and successful partnership,” he continued.
