anton buttigieg

Malta-headquartered AquaBioTech Group has appointed Anton J. Buttigieg as its new non-executive Chairman.

The appointment comes as the global aquaculture technology and services provider continues to scale its land-based fish farming solutions across international markets, with a particular focus on Asia, Africa and other high-growth regions.

Mr Buttigieg brings more than 15 years of leadership experience in international trade and export development. He is best known for his role as the founding Chief Executive Officer of Trade Malta, a position he held for over a decade, where he supported Maltese businesses in expanding overseas through trade missions, market intelligence and financial incentives. In addition to this, he was appointed senior advisor at Nasdaq-listed Trust Stamp at the beginning of the month.

During his tenure, he led high-level delegations across Africa, the Middle East and Asia, frequently alongside senior government representatives. He also served on the Board of Trade Promotion Europe for four years, including two years as Vice President.

Commenting on the appointment, AquaBioTech Group CEO Shane A. Hunter said the company was pleased to welcome Mr Buttigieg to the leadership team.

“We are all delighted to have [Mr Buttigieg] join and lead the board of directors as our new Chairman as we have witnessed first-hand his hard work with Trade Malta over the years,” he said.

Mr Buttigieg said the company’s global positioning and scientific approach made it well-placed to address growing demand for sustainable seafood solutions, adding that “the company has established itself as a global leader in innovative aquaculture solutions, combining scientific excellence with practical, scalable technologies that are making a real impact worldwide.”

He added that he looks forward to supporting the board and executive team as the company expands its presence across key international markets.
