For Izzy Hyzler, Chief Commercial Officer at Growth Gurus, this past year has been one of reflection and conscious efforts to prioritise both her professional and personal life.
Sharing her insights on LinkedIn, Hyzler highlighted the key lessons that have shaped her well-being – offering a refreshing perspective on how leaders can nurture both success and self-care.
The power of small resets
One of the biggest takeaways for Ms Hyzler this year has been the importance of taking a moment to pause. “No phone, no distractions – just you,” she stated, describing a simple yet powerful habit she has integrated into her daily routine. After a long day at work, she makes it a point to greet her children, connect with them, and then take a few minutes to “reset” before diving into evening responsibilities. This small ritual, she explained, allows her to be fully present for the second half of her day.
A commitment to lifelong learning
For many leaders, continuous learning is key to professional growth. For Ms Hyzler, it has also been instrumental in personal development. “This year, I fell in love with reading & podcasts,” she shared, explaining how exploring topics related to self-development, health, and business has empowered her. By dedicating time to learning, she has gained valuable insights that she applies in both her professional and personal life.
Routine, with a touch of flexibility
While structure can be a powerful tool for productivity, Ms Hyzler also recognises the need for adaptability. “Some days won’t go according to plan, and that’s okay. Tomorrow is a new opportunity to get back on track,” she reflected. Leaders often rely on disciplined routines to manage their demanding schedules, but as she points out, self-compassion is just as important as discipline.
Health as the foundation
“Without our health, everything else we care about becomes insignificant,” she noted. This year, she gained a deeper appreciation for prioritising her physical and mental well-being. This extends to finding an exercise routine she enjoys, describing how discovering a gym she loves has been a “game-changer” not just for fitness, but for mental clarity and self-care.
The value of presence in relationships
Quality over quantity is a principle Ms Hyzler applies to her relationships as well. “Being present is what truly matters,” she emphasised, explaining how making a conscious effort to engage meaningfully with loved ones has strengthened her personal connections. For business leaders, the challenge of balancing professional responsibilities with personal relationships is significant, making this insight particularly relevant.
Trusting the process and practising gratitude
Letting go of control has been one of the more difficult lessons for Ms Hyzler, but one she has come to embrace. “Something my counsellor has been telling me for years, and I finally embraced it in 2024,” she revealed. Learning to “trust the process” has brought her a newfound sense of calm, allowing her to focus on what truly matters.
Alongside this, she has also made gratitude a daily habit. “Gratitude is a simple thing that can transform our perspective on life,” she wrote, sharing how taking a moment each day to acknowledge small victories and everyday moments has helped her develop a deeper sense of contentment.
The power of belief
Above all, she credits belief as the force that keeps her moving forward. “To believe in yourself is to acknowledge your strength, your worth, and your limitless potential,” she stated. For leaders, belief in oneself can be the difference between stagnation and progress – between fear and taking that next bold step.
