Buddy Chief Technology Officer Jonathan Mifsud on Sunday shared that the fitness journey that he embarked on three weeks ago has enabled him to have more opportunities to think and reflect.

Mr Mifsud remarked that while he has not seen any “big improvements” physically over the past week, he has witnessed a number of positive changes that have been happening to him since the start of the journey.

In the past, he would spend his evenings watching TV on the sofa with his wife, yet he has recently chosen to dedicate more time to walking.

“Now I find myself going for a walk alone, and sometimes my wife joins in, albeit we walk slower together,” he said, before adding that they walked 9.6 kilometres together on Saturday. Mr Mifsud remarked that walking together has also given them the opportunity to “talk more deeply about certain issues and challenges” that they both face.

A healthy lifestyle with regular exercise is crucial not only for physical benefits, but also in order to have a better state of mind. This is especially the case for business leaders, who have the mental struggle of balancing the day-to-day operations of their business together with their own personal lives.

“In our daily life, we find ourselves jumping from one task to another, with little time to think. I used to block time away so I could think,” Mr Mifsud explained.

However, starting this journey has helped him “discover and unblock new time to think that before did not exist”, such as reflecting on opportunities, Buddy’s team, people and how the company can improve, “away from the distractions of computers, social media and anyone else”, just himself and his thoughts.

“Positive thoughts and actions are always amplified in unexpected ways. Can’t wait to see what else I will learn and discover about myself in this journey,” he concluded.

Mr Mifsud co-founded cloud payroll provider Buddy in 2019, and is also a XERO Developer and Integration Expert at Maze Digital.
