After more than a decade and a half advising clients across complex regulatory, tax and financial services matters, Lawyer Franklin Cachia has taken the step from advisory into industry, joining MiFinity as its new Chief Legal and Compliance Officer.

The appointment, which follows approval from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), marks a significant shift in Dr Cachia’s career, having spent years guiding firms through licensing processes, regulatory frameworks and compliance obligations – including supporting MiFinity itself over the past five years in an advisory capacity.

Describing the move as a natural progression, Dr Cachia noted that while professional careers inevitably come with “ups and downs”, turbulence is often part of the journey. He expressed his enthusiasm for taking on new challenges with the same drive, passion and problem-solving mentality that has defined his advisory career.

Dr Cachia’s professional background spans legal, tax, compliance and regulatory advisory across multiple sectors, including financial services, iGaming, trusts and foundations, GDPR, and commercial law.

He most recently served as Head of Legal at BDO Malta, following a period as Lead Consultant specialising in legal and tax advisory. Prior to this, he spent five years at CSB Group, where he progressed from Senior Manager for Tax and Regulated Industries to Executive Director.

Earlier in his career, he was Compliance Officer at ZBX and Senior Associate at Fenech Farrugia Fiott Legal, where his work included drafting legal opinions, handling commercial contracts, conducting due diligence, serving as MLRO and Compliance Officer for MiFID firms, and managing regular correspondence with both the MFSA and the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) on licensing matters.

His experience also includes acting as Legal and Compliance Key Person for various iGaming companies, coordinating remote gaming licence applications, drafting prospectuses for public listings on the Malta Stock Exchange, and overseeing company secretarial and directorship duties.
