Starting a business is not for the faint hearted. There are so many different moving parts and we learn to master them one at a time. As a Solopreneur, you will wear all the hats until you can outsource your work or hire team members. You will bring a lot of your personal and professional experience into the mix, but something will hold you back. You may not even recognise it in the beginning.

For women, many of us were taught to ‘give more than you receive’, ‘dim our lights’ and be ‘quiet and modest’. These words became our thoughts and our beliefs, which then ingrained into our subconscious mind. We don’t even realise how they’ve impacted us on a daily basis.

I’ve experienced and also seen that one of the most common blocks for new and established female entrepreneurs is our money receiving blocks. The most important lesson I’ve learnt so far is that we all have a relationship with money. Imagine that – it shows up in different ways as we are resistant to making money for fear of rejection or judgement.

For example:

  • One can be reluctant to ask for a higher salary for fear they will lose the job opportunity.
  • One can be uncomfortable selling their services and stumble on their sales call.
  • One can be afraid to raise their prices in case they lose their existing customers.
  • One will over deliver their services and offer tonnes of free services and bonuses as they fear their competitors are better than them.
  • One will not be visible on social media for fear of judgement by family and friends.

We will start off by imagining how our business will take off and grow with ease. The digital nomad life is appealing, as we dream of the day we quit our jobs and travel the world. We dream of creating financial freedom so that we can spend more time with our family. We dream of giving our children a better life so that they don’t have to struggle.

So, how can we turn this around? How can we change our narrative and reframe our beliefs about money? Here are ten tips to help you create a positive relationship with money:

  1. Identify your money story and think about how you react when you see your bank balance or get the bill in a restaurant. Does this make you choke up or get knots in your stomach?

  2. Identify what your parents said about money and think about how they managed their finances. Did they say you had to ‘work hard for your money’ or that ‘the love of money is the root of all evil’? Did they spend recklessly or save every penny?

  3. Get crystal clear on your financial goals and create a strategy to help you track your spending, savings and investments. Decide on exactly how much money you need to live the lifestyle you truly desire and what you need to do to achieve it.

  4. Check your bank statements every three months and cancel subscriptions you no longer need.

  5. Write down 10 things you are grateful for. When we realise what we already have, we are more likely to stop wanting to buy more things.

  6. Stop attaching your worth, feelings and beliefs to money. Look within yourself and learn how money makes you feel.

  7. Create daily habits to support your business and show up online as the expert you are. People are drawn to our energy and can sense how we feel.

  8. Invest in your business and personal growth in order to thrive and scale.

  9. Market your message in a way that attracts clients organically and stops you from chasing them.

  10. Forgive yourself for your past financial decisions and allow money to flow into your life with ease.

By creating a positive relationship with money, I’ve been able to detach from sales calls and focus on my clients’ needs instead of my own desires.

I’ve coached women who understood that they were investing in my program to help them grow and scale in their business.

I’ve created my own online course – The Ultimate Money Mindset Breakthrough Course to help people understand their relationship with money.

I’ve coached 40 women in the last two years, and helped them start up their own business, create an online course and become more confident within themselves.

I’ve also been a guest expert in several female entrepreneurial groups speaking about our relationship with money.

This is just the beginning as I prepare to reach even more women globally. Now is the time for women to turn their passion into profit and become financially independent. That is what I also plan to do here, in this series of articles on MaltaCEOs.mt. My aim is to help women transform their self-limiting beliefs and money receiving blocks so that they can create financial freedom and build a thriving business.
