Ian Fenech Conti named Executive Director at Loqus Holdings plc

Ian Fenech Conti has been appointed Executive Director at Loqus Holdings plc, the company announced on Wednesday.

The announcement comes after the ICT solutions provider held its Annual General Meeting (AGM), during which eight valid nominations were received for directorship roles. These came from Walter Bonnici, Joe Fenech Conti, Anthony Demajo, Joseph Roland Scerri, Lawrence Zammit, Joannie Grima, Reuben Attard, and Dr Fenech Conti. Since there were fewer nominations than there were vacancies on the Board of Directors, the nominated individuals were all automatically appointed Directors.

Loqus Holdings is the holding company of Loqus Group, formerly Datatrak Group. The group provides ICT solutions with the mission of providing customers with products and services aimed at improving their cost effectiveness. It has five main business functions: infomobility, geomatics, ICT solutions, public sector business, and management services.

Aside from his new role, Dr Fenech Conti is also Head of Research and Product Development at the group’s subsidiary Loqus Business Intelligence. His main responsibilities include research and development (R&D) to keep various products up to date and scalable for the future, user experience, as well as leading the technical design and product development of Loqus Group’s main platform openFleet.

He had first joined the company as Software Engineer back in 2008, before being promoted to Head of R&D in 2017.

Dr Fenech Conti read for his undergraduate degree in IT, majoring in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) from University of Malta. Afterwards, he was invited to continue developing his work at University of Oxford’s Department of Physics. Following that, he enrolled for a Ph.D in Physics with University of Malta’s Department of Physics in collaboration with the UK-based university, with his research area being optical modelling and simulation. The research focused on the development of image processing and correction algorithms for space telescopes.

After completing his Ph.D, he joined the Institute of Space Sciences and Astronomy (ISSA) at University of Malta as an Affiliate Lecturer. He has since continued to develop and evolve the work he did in his studies, specifically on the application to the European Space Agency’s Euclid space telescope, which achieved first light last year.
