Michael Farrugia officially assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of Farsons Group today, 1st July, completing a leadership transition that was first announced in September 2025.
He succeeds Norman Aquilina, following a planned succession process that saw Mr Farrugia serve as CEO Designate over the past nine months while working alongside the Group's leadership team as Farsons approaches its 100th anniversary.
Mr Farrugia joined Farsons in 2006 and has held a number of senior leadership positions within the Group. He was appointed Executive Director to the Board in 2011 and currently serves as Chairman of Farsons Beverage Imports Company Ltd and The Brewhouse Company Ltd. He also sits on the boards of Trident Estates plc, Quinco Holdings plc, Multigas Ltd and Farrugia Investments Ltd, and is an Administrator of The Farsons Foundation.
He holds a master's degree in European History from the University of Edinburgh and an MBA from Warwick Business School.
According to the company, during his time as CEO Designate, Mr Farrugia worked closely with the leadership team to advance the Group's strategic priorities, focusing on building what it describes as a "Lean, Green and Digital" organisation through greater efficiency, innovation and sustainability.
Commenting on officially taking up the role, Mr Farrugia said: "It is a privilege to be entrusted with the leadership of Farsons at such an important moment in its history. As we approach our 100th anniversary, I look forward to building on the strong foundations and values that have shaped the Group over generations, while continuing to strengthen our business, invest in our people and brands, and pursue opportunities for sustainable growth both locally and internationally."
