Papaya Ltd and the Malta Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (MSPCA) are sharing the key outcomes of their 2025 partnership, highlighting how corporate responsibility can translate into meaningful, measurable impact for animal welfare.
Launched in March 2025, the collaboration is rooted in a shared belief that caring for animals extends beyond rescue to education, patience, and helping people do right by the animals they welcome into their lives.
Over the past months, Papaya Ltd’s support has helped the MSPCA continue its everyday work at the shelter – feeding, treating, training, and caring for animals as they wait for a second chance.
Between January and September, 147 animals found new homes, each one supported by careful matching and more than 140 home visits to make sure the transition was right for both animal and adopter.

One particularly special moment came in December, when The Road to Home, the MSPCA’s new adoption booklet developed with the support of Papaya Ltd and others, was shared with new adopters. Created to guide families through the joys and challenges of welcoming a rescued animal, the booklet is meant to be a companion long after the first day home.
Much of the partnership’s impact has taken place outside the shelter walls. Throughout 2025, MSPCA educators visited schools and community spaces across the island, speaking with nearly 2,000 students as well as teachers, university groups, psychologists, and families. These sessions focused on kindness, responsibility, and understanding what animals need from – conversations that may not show immediate results, but which help shape how the next generation views and treats animals.

At the same time, important groundwork was being laid for the future of the shelter itself. Planning during 2025 focused on much-needed refurbishment works scheduled for 2026, including repairs, new shared spaces, and essential upgrades. These changes are about creating a safer, calmer environment – one where animals can recover with dignity and where the people who care for them can work and volunteer with confidence.
The year also brought reminders of why this work matters so deeply. Between January and September, 146 animals arrived at the MSPCA through Animal Welfare transfers, owner surrenders, or as strays. Behind every number is a story – of hardship, difficult choices, or animals left without care. With Papaya Ltd’s support, the MSPCA was able to respond not only by taking animals in, but by helping families hold on, through initiatives such as the Food Bank Programme, which supports pet owners during times of financial strain.

“Having Papaya Ltd walk alongside us this year has allowed us to focus not just on today’s emergencies, but on tomorrow’s solutions,” said Mary Cassar Torreggiani, General Manager of the MSPCA. “It has helped us educate, support adopters, and plan for a better shelter – all while keeping animal welfare at the heart of everything we do.”
“At Papaya Ltd, we believe that corporate responsibility is about creating meaningful, measurable impact within the communities we work with,” said Igor Badanov, CEO of Papaya Ltd. “Seeing the care, effort, and compassion that goes into every animal’s journey has been incredibly moving. As the year ends, we’re grateful to be part of something that truly makes a difference, one life at a time.”
