Luxury Living Technologies (LLT) has announced the appointment of Sophie-Ann Busuttil as Director, following the sudden death of her father, company founder Jean Paul Busuttil, who was fatally shot on 29th June in a widely reported incident.

Ms Busuttil, 22, officially took on the role on 4th July 2025. She has been involved in the family business for the past four years, and for the last two years has served as head of the group’s Luxury Living Sustainable Hospitality Company. In addition to her new role, she also holds directorship positions within LLT’s various subsidiaries.

The company confirmed that its Audit Committee will now be composed of Paul DeBattista, H.E. Count Chevalier Anthony C. Coleiro, and Ms Busuttil herself, with Dr DeBattista serving as Chairperson of both the Board and the Audit Committee.

Luxury Living Technologies was established by Mr Busuttil in 2016, initially focusing on the solar energy sector, after successfully raising €8 million through the Maltese bond market.

In recent years, the company diversified its portfolio, venturing into real estate and beverages, and currently owns the Smoochie brand of fresh fruit smoothies as well as a guesthouse in St Julian’s.

Mr Busuttil, widely known by the nickname ‘Ta’ Bandallu’, was killed after a minor traffic collision escalated into violence while he was driving with his wife and mother-in-law in Bidnija. The family had been on their way to watch Ms Busuttil play volleyball when the incident occurred.
