The Malta Trust Foundation is extending its successful Blossom project – providing vulnerable students with essential counselling services – to Birzebbuga after receiving financial support for the initiative from Malta Freeport Terminals and Malta Freeport Corporation.

Blossom, which supplies permanent counsellors funded entirely by private entities, has already offered psycho-social support to more than 500 children at the St Paul’s Bay Primary School, Qawra Primary School and Naxxar Middle School since the initiative was launched in 2017.

“The Freeport is committed to supporting the Birzebbuga community and we wholeheartedly believe that the Blossom Project will make a tangible difference to students’ development and wellbeing,” Malta Freeport Terminals CEO Alex Montebello said of the project.

Malta Freeport Corporation CEO David Magro added that “through this project we are giving something back to the local community.”

The Blossom project, which also delivered online services to 1,500 students and families throughout the pandemic, works with staff at schools to empower students and endow them with the skills to face life’s challenges, promote better decision-making and bring about a positive change in their behaviour.

Trust Foundation chair Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca affirmed that, “it has given us great satisfaction to watch children become more resilient through this initiative and we are delighted to be able to now offer our service to St Benedict College in Birzebbuga thanks to the immense support from Malta Freeport Terminals and Malta Freeport Corporation.”

Headmaster Jean-Pierre Micallef added, “this project is essential for ensuring every child is educated in a safe and caring environment. It will also empower pupils to promote values, skills, knowledge, creativity and a positive attitude towards tolerance and inclusion to become reflective citizens.”
