Marc von Brockdorff, Co-Founder and Director of Engineering at international tech company Hotjar, announced that his eight-year-long journey at the company has come to an end.

Mr von Brockdorff founded Hotjar back in 2014 together with David Darmanin, Erik Näslund, Jonathan Vella, and Johan Malmberg.

“We had an ambition dream to have a remote-first company (at a time when remote working wasn’t yet the norm) and a product that could improve the digital experiences of websites all over the globe,” Mr von Brockdorff wrote on social media.

Back in September, Hotjar was acquired by ContentSquare – an international tech giant founded in Paris in 2012. Hotjar now provides insights to close to one million websites spread around 180 countries and employs 216 team members from all over the globe.

“I’ll be honest – throughout my time at Hotjar, I often felt overwhelmed and inadequate – no MBA or book could have prepared me for the realities of building and growing an online business. The one thing that kept me going all these years was the fact that I was working with some of the most talented, ambitious, and supportive people I know,” Mr von Brockdorff added.

“There’s a lot I’m proud of, but there’s one thing that trumps it all: the fact that Hotjar continues to put its core values at the centre of everything it does. Our goal from day one was to build a company that people not only enjoyed working at but also felt they could do their best work at. We haven’t always been perfect, but we have continued to challenge ourselves to be the best people-first company we could be. That is definitely something to be proud of,” he continued.

Mr von Brockforff noted that, whilst he has no plans to take up employment elsewhere anytime soon, he “is not planning on hibernating.”

“You can expect a few blog posts over the next few months highlighting many of the lessons I have learnt over the years,” he told his followers.
