The Malta Chamber CEO Marthese Portelli on Monday saluted former President Marisa Xuereb for her term in charge of the institution.

Following the Annual General Meeting held on 28th March, The Malta Chamber’s newly elected Council met on Monday and elected Chris Vassallo Cesareo as the 72nd President of the institution for the next two years. He outlined “truth and legacy” as his “driving force” for his time in charge, and said that “competitiveness and good governance” will remain at the top of The Malta Chamber’s agenda. He sat on the Council for the last 10 years and served as Deputy President for the last two years.

As a result, he replaces Ms Xuereb, who last month confirmed that she will not be running for a second term as she felt that she had given it her all and that another term would “simply deprive The Malta Chamber of the opportunity to benefit from new impetus and fresh ideas”.

Commenting on Ms Xuereb’s departure, Dr Portelli said: “You have been an inspiration, a person to look up to, a person I have learnt a lot from. A work relationship and a true friendship that I will cherish forever.”

“Your term has come to its end but you are leaving a legacy behind you,” she added.

“Your intelligence, sharpness, clarity, integrity, and tenacity led The Malta Chamber to the next level,” she remarked, before saying that she was “lucky to have had the opportunity” to work alongside her.

Prior to her being voted President in March 2021, Ms Xuereb sat on The Malta Chamber’s Council for the previous six years, and served as Deputy President under the leadership of David Xuereb.

She is an economist by profession, and is the Managing Director of Raesch Quarz (Malta) Ltd.
