Author and Assistant Headmaster Mark Camilleri has been appointed Executive Chairman of the National Book Council.
The Council has also elected a new board in a bid to reflect the different facets of the local book industry.
Mark Vella is the board’s new Deputy Chairperson and Daniela Attard Bezzina, Maria Brown, Aleks Farrugia, Joseph Mizzi, Christopher Gruppetta, John Portelli, and Joseph Debtattista are the new board Members.
The board has been elected for a three-year period.
Executive Chairman Mark Camilleri graduated with a Bachelor of Education in History from the University of Malta and has now been in the education industry for 17 years.
His literary credits include Maltese-language novels Prima Facie (2010), Volens (2013), Nex (2016,) Mill-Istorja tal-Futbol Malti (2018), and Alias (2021).
Education Minister Justyne Caruana thanked the board’s former members for their work.
The National Book Council is an association of publishers and writers that offers the local book industry various services. The Council also looks to emphasise the importance of reading whilst promoting books as a means of communication.
