AX Group has been awarded the Gold Award for Family Business of the Year at the Malta Business Awards 2024, organised by the Malta Chamber of SMEs in collaboration with Malta Enterprise.
This accolade recognises the Group’s “commitment to family values, innovation, and its enduring contributions to Malta’s business landscape,” wrote the company in a statement.
Founded by Angelo Xuereb 50 years ago, AX Group has grown into one of Malta’s leading organisations.
Operating across diverse sectors including Hospitality, Care, Real Estate, Development, Construction and Renewable Energy, the Group remains a family-led business.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr Xuereb reflected on the Group’s journey: “From a young age, I aspired to achieve success in my career. 50 years ago, I started with just two employees; today, AX Group directly employs over 1,200 people.”
Mr Xuereb expressed that his greatest satisfaction in life comes from his family. He shared that he has always encouraged his children to follow their own paths and build their success on values such as creativity, determination, and integrity.
He noted his pride in seeing Claire Zammit Xuereb head the Hospitality and Care divisions and Denise Xuereb lead the Development, Construction, and Real Estate divisions, “both excelling in their respective fields.”
He also highlighted that while every project brings new challenges, they always face them together as a family.

The Malta Business Awards, held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, celebrated excellence in Malta’s business landscape.
Recognising achievements in categories such as sustainability, innovation, and social impact, the awards shined a spotlight on organisations that drive positive change and inspire growth within the local economy.
As AX Group prepares to mark its 50th anniversary in 2025, flagship projects such as the Verdala Wellness Hotel, Verdala Terraces, and the ODYCY development “showcase its forward-thinking vision, ensuring the Group remains at the forefront of innovation and sustainability while delivering long-term value for the wider community,” added the company.
