Chef and entrepreneur Sean Gravina has announced that he has officially parted ways with Crust, the popular restaurant he founded and helped build over more than a decade.
In a social media post, Mr Gravina revealed that he and his partners had decided around a year ago to place the business on the market. The company was officially listed for sale in February 2026 and was sold within a month, with the final documents signed last week.
“Crust was a brand I built from the ground up,” Mr Gravina said. “For over a decade, it became a place loved by so many Maltese and visitors alike. It was never just a business to me; it was a project that carried a huge part of my life, energy, passion, and dreams.”
While declining to elaborate on the specific circumstances behind the sale, Mr Gravina said there were aspects of the business that “simply no longer made sense”, making the sale the right decision for all parties involved.
He stressed that he had “absolutely nothing negative” to say about his partners and expressed gratitude for the lessons he learnt through the business.
Reflecting on his experience, Mr Gravina offered advice to aspiring chefs and entrepreneurs entering the business world.
“Make sure you and your investors are aligned from day one,” he wrote. “Make sure the vision, expectations, and long-term goals are crystal clear. When people are not moving towards the same destination, motivation and energy can fade very quickly.”
Despite describing the outcome of the sale positively, Mr Gravina acknowledged the emotional challenge of letting go of a business that had been such a significant part of his life.
“While I cannot complain about the outcome of the sale, letting go of something you built over ten years is never easy,” he said. “There is a certain sadness that comes with closing a chapter that shaped such a large part of your life.”
Looking ahead, Mr Gravina revealed that he has already been approached by several investors and individuals interested in discussing potential future ventures. However, he indicated that he intends to take some time away before embarking on a new project.
The chef also hinted that he is already considering a number of new concepts aimed at different locations and markets, suggesting that a new venture could emerge in the future.
Mr Gravina concluded his message by thanking the customers who supported Crust throughout its journey, crediting them with helping the brand become what it was.
