The Malta Bankers Association (MBA) has appointed Izabela Banas as its new Deputy Chair.
She succeeds Henry Schmeltzer, following his departure from MeDirect Bank (Malta) plc (MDB). Mr Schmeltzer had served in the role since June 2022 after being re-elected in June 2024.
She initially started her career at General Electric Company as part of the Financial Management Programme, before serving in a number of other roles in the company, including Senior Financial Planning Analyst – Global. Seven years later she moved to serve in senior roles at Elster Group, Credit Suisse, and Willis.
Later, she joined Bank of Valletta (BOV) as Group CFO, a position she held for three years. At BOV, she also served as Chair of the Asset and Liability Management Committee and was also a Member of its Executive Committee.
During her tenure at BOV, she was also Director and Audit Committee Member at MAPFRE MSV Life plc.
Ms Banas has a degree in Economics with a specialisation in Finance from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
