The Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) announced that Chairman Joshua Ellul will not be seeking reappointment.

Prof. Ellul, the MDIA added, will now be focussing “more prominently on his academic career”.

The authority announced the outgoing Chairman’s decision on social media.

“The MDIA would like to thank Prof. Ellul for his leadership from 2018 and for the enormous contribution he has made to the [authority]. He has been an excellent Chairman and has played a crucial role in the successful development of the MDIA,” it wrote.

Founded in 2018, the MDIA is the primary authority responsible for promoting governmental policies that promote Malta as the centre for excellence for technological innovations.

The authority also sets and enforces standards that ensure compliance with any other international obligations.

Prof. Ellul has been closely involved in academia for many years. Between 2009 and 2013, he served as a Post-doctoral Researcher at IBM Research Zurich and Imperial College London.

The outgoing MDIA Chairman also currently serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Malta’s Department of Computer Science.

Since 2018, Prof. Ellul has been serving as a Director at the Centre for Distributed Ledger Technologies.
