Nico Sciberras has been appointed Director for Indirect Taxation within the Malta Tax and Customs Administration (MTCA).

Mr Sciberras brings a strong technical and advisory background to the role, having worked across both the private and public sectors over the past decade.

He first joined the Office of the Commissioner for Revenue in 2019 as a Technical Advisor, later being promoted to Chief Tax Officer in 2023.

Mr Sciberras represents Malta in a number of key European fora. These include acting as Malta’s Head of Delegation for the EU VAT Committee, Lead Delegate for the EU Council’s Working Party on Tax Questions (Indirect Taxes), and Malta’s representative in the Group for the Future of VAT. He also participates in EU Fiscalis events and supports the country’s representation in the TADEUS group.

On the local front, he is actively involved in the drafting, interpretation, and implementation of VAT law, advising Government on tax policy, supporting stakeholders on technical issues, and delivering staff training.

Prior to his time in the public sector, Mr Sciberras spent five years as a Tax Advisor at KPMG Malta, where he focused on VAT, international taxation, and corporate tax compliance. His work at the firm involved managing high-profile projects and delivering tax advisory services on both direct and indirect taxation.

Mr Sciberras holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance and a Master’s degree in Accountancy, both from the University of Malta.
