Pontus Lindwall

Betsson CEO Pontus Lindwall is bullish on the global iGaming market, using the company’s report on its Q1 results to state his belief that the industry will continue to grow “for many years to come” on the back of a structural shift driven by the continued online migration of gambling activity.

While acknowledging the “great uncertainty” and concerns about reduced world trade, higher inflation and a weakening economy, Mr Lindwall noted that demand for gaming products “has historically been relatively unaffected by the general economic cycle.”

Betsson reported positive results for the first quarter of 2025, reaching new record levels for customer deposits and gaming turnover. Revenue increased by 18 per cent while operating income increased by 11 per cent.

Latin America was singled out as an important growth region that now accounts for 25 per cent of Betsson’s total revenue.

Developments in the region during the quarter included a four-year extension of the company’s jersey sponsorship with major Argentinian football team Boca Juniors, a new office in Buenos Aires, and launches in Brazil and Paraguay.

“This means that we now have operations with local gaming licenses in 25 countries around the world,” said Mr Lindwall.

Revenue from locally regulated markets increased by 60 per cent and accounted for 59 per cent of total revenue for the quarter.

“Betsson’s ambition is to create long-term stable profit growth through geographical diversification and growth initiatives in existing and new markets,” he said. “With a scalable, global business model and proprietary products and technology, we are well positioned for continued profitable growth going forward.”
