Chiliz is a currency option for blockchain-backed products and services geared towards mainstream consumers. Socios.com, on the other hand, is ‘the first scalable, mainstream hub for fans to buy tokenized voting rights in their favourite teams’.

Said platform is powered by the Chiliz currency – $CHZ – and counts a number of leading football clubs, such as AS Roma, Paris Saint-Germain, FC Barcelona, and Juventus, among its partners.

“Socios.com made worldwide headlines as today we announced the acquiring of 24.5 per cent of FC Barcelona’s Barça Studios to develop fan token, blockchain, and Web3 strategies. Proud longer-term partners,” Mr Camilleri wrote.

Chiliz said that this partnership will enhance FC Barcelona’s ability ‘to deliver meaningful digital products to fans and build new long-term sustainable revenue streams’.

Furthermore, Barça studios will now be able to draw on Socios.com’s experience in blockchain technology to deliver utility that connects fans with the club. As part of the partnership, the two entities are set to develop projects that attract innovative blockchain and Web3 partners to build new features in the Barcelona FC ecosystem.

Mr Camilleri’s experience with Chiliz and Socios.com dates back to March 2019, when he joined the company as Head of Marketing. A year later, he was appointed Marketing Director – a position which he holds to this day.

Mr Camilleri holds a wealth of experience in the local marketing industry, having served as Digital Marketing Consultant at EBO, Altaro Software, and Newsbook.com.mt, and as Head of Sales and Marketing at Uniblue Systems Ltd.
