Malta Institute of Accountants (MIA) CEO Maria Cauchi Delia expressed the institute’s pride in seeing qualified accountants emerge as leaders across various sectors on the local and international front.
This was mentioned during the celebration of MIA and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) 20th anniversary of their Joint Examination Scheme (JES) in Malta.
This celebration comes after the renewal of the JES agreement between the two organisation for an additional five years.
The three-day event included a joint half-day conference where they explored the transformative role of accountancy and auditing professionals in today’s world. Key themes at the conference included sustainability, digitalisation, and ethics – topics that are increasingly central to the responsibilities and challenges faced by accountants and auditors.
Ms Cauchi Delia remarked that MIA’s partnership with ACCA over the past two decades has empowered professionals to set high standards in accountancy, finance, and management.
Meanwhile, MIA President Mark Bugeja said that the institute’s partnership with ACCA ensures that it is well-prepared to face future challenges and to continue advancing the profession.
ACCA Chief Executive Helen Brand highlighted ACCA’s commitment to working alongside MIA and one of the key motivators behind this collaboration being the promotion of growth and development of the accountancy profession “to ensure that it makes a strong and positive contribution to Malta’s economy and to economies globally.”
As part of these celebrations, MIA and ACCA hosted roundtable discussions with Approved Learning Partners and employers, together with an interactive session with students, with the objective of taking stock and building upon what has been achieved so far through this collaboration, and contribute towards the future success of all involved
In addition, a cocktail event to celebrating this anniversary hosted by the MIA and ACCA brought together a number of stakeholders who have been an integral part of MIA’s relationship with ACCA over the past two decades, including MIA Council Members, former MIA Presidents, past ACCA student award-winners and representatives from ACCA.
The transition will require a shift towards greater pay transparency.
