Sean Gravina

Sean Gravina, Creative Director and Head Chef at St Julian’s eatery Crust took to social media to criticise the latest mask-wearing directive put forward by the local health authorities.

Yesterday, Health Minister Chris Fearne announced that, as of this Saturday, masks must once again be worn in all open public space.

The Health Minister highlighted that this rule also applies if one is by themselves or with just one more person.

“I’m living the most contradictory life to date. I did my part, my family did their part, and I’m still being forced to wear this blasted mask,” Mr Gravina wrote.

“Nothing is adding up anymore and I’m tired of it. I injected myself with a foreign body so I can live, and now we are once again being asked to get the booster and, on the same week, we are being forced to wear our mask,” he questioned.

Mr Gravina has been critical of the health authorities’ approach to the pandemic in the past, having lambasted the ‘lack of a roadmap put forward for Malta’s restaurant industry’ last April.

“I’m all for vaccines, but I’m not going to keep on vaccinating myself and living within restrictions, it’s time to make up your mind – it’s either one or the other, not both. It is what it is. The people need to live. Enough is enough,” Mr Gravina continued.

“This is going to happen every winter, let’s start getting used to it and stop running away from the obvious. It’s time to live, we have reached herd immunity and beyond, let’s not compare ourselves to other countries. Let’s be the better nation we are, yes for booster, no for restrictions,” he concluded.

Mr Gravina founded Crust back in April 2017 with the intention of bringing out the best of the bakery, bar, and bistro disciplines.
