Jonathan Shaw

A group of expats living in Senglea has come together to support Martin, a 70-year-old British national who has quietly lived in the community for many years.

Known among neighbours for his kindness and willingness to help others, Martin now faces a severe health challenge of his own: A detached retina in one eye and an advanced cataract in the other.

As a non-EU national, he is not eligible for free public healthcare. His deteriorating eyesight has left him unable to work, leaving him without the means to cover medical costs or even his day-to-day needs.

Recognising the urgency of the situation, members of the expat community have set up a crowdfunding campaign to help him access treatment. So far, €1,120 has been collected towards the €5,000 target.

Partner at Hatten M&A Advisory and a M&A Specialist Jonathan Shaw shared the crowdfunding page on LinkedIn in the hope of widening support.

“In this case, helping someone restore or even partly improve their vision can truly change a life overnight,” he told MaltaCEOs.mt.

“With my LinkedIn network of locals, expats, and foreigners, I felt compelled to share hoping that with a little from many, we can collectively make this happen.”

Mr Shaw said he hopes the visibility will help close the funding gap quickly, noting that even small contributions can make a meaningful difference.

The donation page, created by one of the expats supporting him, can be accessed here.
