MeDirect Bank (Malta) plc has announced a series of senior leadership appointments across its board and executive team, all of which remain subject to regulatory approval.
The appointments include two new non-executive directors and a new Group Chief Risk Officer.
In a company announcement, the Bank confirmed that Josef Holub and Steve Agius have been appointed as non-executive directors of both MeDirect Bank (Malta) plc and its parent, MDB Group Limited. Both will also sit on the Board Risk and Compliance Committee.
The bank also announced the appointment of Martin Kubíček as Group Chief Risk Officer, who will additionally serve as an executive director on the boards of the Bank and MDB Group.
Mr Kubíček currently serves as Chief Risk Officer and Board Member at Banka CREDITAS, the controlling shareholder of MDB Group. Bringing over 19 years of experience in risk management, IT security, credit risk and enterprise risk frameworks, he has played a central role in harmonising processes, overseeing risk governance, and integrating risk, AML and compliance functions across financial institutions.
He has also contributed to the development of expected credit loss methodologies and forward-looking risk adjustments, while leading governance framework design efforts across multiple entities. Mr Kubíček previously undertook research studies at Charles University in Prague and at the University of Tokyo.
Mr Holub sits on the Supervisory Board and Audit Committee of Banka CREDITAS. His previous roles at the Czech bank include Chief Financial Officer between 2012 and 2022 and Board Member from 2017 to 2022. He has extensive industry experience spanning accounting, taxation, legal matters and regulatory affairs.
Before joining Banka CREDITAS, Mr Holub held senior financial roles with Aviva životní pojišťovna and earlier worked at Price Waterhouse and Škoda Plzeň. He is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA).

Dr Agius currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Active Ageing and Community Care. His career spans senior leadership positions in healthcare, identity management and communications, including CEO of Identità Malta and Chief Operating Officer at Mater Dei Hospital, where he coordinated Malta’s national COVID-19 vaccination programme.
He previously served on the Board of Bank of Valletta, including as a member of the Audit Committee and Chair of the Information Technology Oversight Committee. Dr Agius also holds an academic post at the University of Malta, lecturing in social media strategy and big data analytics. He holds a PhD focused on data-driven strategic decision-making.
