Ronald Sultana has been appointed CEO of Gozo Channel Operations Ltd, while Marlene Cini has been named Chairperson.

The roles of CEO and Chairperson have been split, with Mr Sultana taking on a full-time job, focused on the company’s daily management and overseeing its long-term vision.

They succeed Joe Cordina, who had been Gozo Channel Chairperson since 2013.

Mr Sultana had served as a Director within the Gozo Ministry since 2019, and was responsible for aspects related to tourism and economic progress.

“Ronald Sultana’s appointment as CEO marks an important transition for one of Gozo’s most strategic entities,” the Gozo Ministry said in a statement.

“His appointment comes as the company navigates challenges related to fleet modernisation and the enhancement of its digital systems and client services.”

“Ronald Sultana’s knowledge about the Gozitan tourism sector and his ability to turn strategies into concrete results puts him in a strong position to lead the company through this transformation.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry hailed Marlene Cini as a lawyer with extensive experience in public administration, legal issues, corporate governance and strategic leadership.

Dr Cini served in a number of Government positions, including Board Secretary of Gozo Channel, Board Secretary of the Gozo Regional Development Authority, and Deputy Leader of Malta’s delegation to the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.

“Connectivity will be a priority this legislature, with significant investment envisaged in the Gozo Channel, the Mġarr Port and the Xewkija Air Field,” the Ministry said.

“Gozo Channel is set to enter an important phase, requiring substantial investment to modernise and expand its fleet in response to growing demand, while improving sustainability and strengthening operational efficiency.”

“Work will also be carried out to upgrade its digital platforms, including its ticketing and marketing systems, so as to offer a more efficient and client-focused service.”

The Ministry also thanked Mr Cordina for his work and service over the years.
